SMSC July edition winners
Jul 24
Today a big new map (3040×1600) of Russia created by AEO was added to the Simutrans maps website. If you use this map be sure to set the water level to -2. The recommended number of rivers is 1024, the maximum length of rivers is also 1024.
Further, a map created by Sindor was added in two sizes (256×256 and 1025×1025). Use water level -6 to get the intended map. As nobody seems to know if this map actually represents a real part of the world, it can be found in the fantasy maps section. Please make a comment if you know which interesting part of the world this might be.
After many requests, finally somebody from the community has encouraged to create a detailed tutorial about the process of creating addons, from botton to top. The document, created by Gauthier, covers all stages of the addons development process, from graphics to pak file creation, but it only uses pixel art techniques, not 3D.
This tutorial is basically written for pak128, but the process is the same for any pakset, the only thing that changes is the size of the images. It’s available at SNFOS site and we’ll try to include some parts in the official wiki.
Now you don’t have excuses to start creating new objects for Simutrans…. ;)
Our beloved benevolent dictator (and administrator of The International Simutrans Forum) Isaac.Eiland-Hall has released his first music album: “Journey Beginning”.
The summer begins and the July’s edition of SMSC too. The subject of this month is Highway infrastructures.
Everybody can participate, with only one screenshot of 800 x 600 pixels, in jpg or png formats. You can use any pakset, and the deadline is July 15th. The voting begins on July 16th.
The prize will be a mention of your nickname in the Simutrans Hall of Fame, praises from the whole community and one post including your picture at blog and simutrans.com.

With the help of a dark, dusty and forgotten place in the maps lair, seven new North American maps have been uploaded to maps.simutrans.com by Combuijs, including Tennessee, Bay Area, Dallas, Lynchburg, Salt Lake City, Sunriver Mountain and a map of whole North America. All of them have different sizes and levels of detail.
You can dowload the new stuff at maps.simutrans.com
Nightly with overhauled UI
Jun 26
The current nightly shows the things to come for the new simutrans graphical user interface. Apart from the focus, which allows near fully keyboard operation of all dialogues, there is now a stick button in the window title. Sticky windows will not close on backspace: very helpful to get rid of error messages during lengthy management operations. Or to have always a map window open.
And the new GUI allows even for skinable scrollbars. Here is a screenshot of a different theme at work.
